José Reyna grew up in Grand Rapids and has a passion for the community. He earned a BA in Sociology from GVSU and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from WMU.

 

José’s professional career spans over 30 years of public sector experience including:

 

  • The honor of serving as a deputy for the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department

  • HR/EEO Director for the City of Holland

  • Executive leadership positions for the City of Grand Rapids ranging from Special Events Coordinator, Assistant to the City Manager, Fiscal Services Manager/Purchasing Agent, special assignments as the Director for the City Assessor’s Office and organizational transformation initiatives within Neighborhood Improvement, Fire Department, and Public Works Department.

  • Director of Community Health Programs for Spectrum Health Systems.

 

My experience includes decades of experience in public finance. I have been responsible for the development and management of departmental budgets, and the development of the City of Grand Rapids’ Fiscal Plan.

 

I have also served as the Director of the City’s Assessor’s Office and Purchasing Department (Purchasing Agent). In each position I was responsible for facilitating the operations of each department. This involved conducting an assessment of staff, operations, and service delivery. Some significant achievements include facilitating the transition of operations from paper-based to web-based/electronic systems to enable greater access and transparency for internal/external customers.

 

I am seeking the office of Kent County Treasurer because of my commitment to the community and my strong interest in leveraging my education and experience for the benefit of Kent County residents.
